Melt Studio and Gallery

Share Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Share on Linkedin

Melt Studio and Gallery is located just outside Picton in a historical air force barracks in the former Camp Picton. Built in 1940 as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP).

The Mandate

Melt Studio and Gallery is managed and run by Canadian encaustic artist Susan Wallis and is the home to her encaustic working studio. Wallis is joined in this space with a selection of over 25 local, Ontario and Quebec artists and artisans.

The gallery’s  mandate is to foster and enhance public awareness, understanding, and appreciation for the positive cultural significance of the visual arts by showcasing all levels of visual artists and artisans through the exhibition.

Our gallery space is open and welcome to all artists and peoples regardless of their age, gender, orientation, backgrounds, etc.  We have a zero-tolerance discrimination policy within our gallery to make this environment safe for all, attendees and artists alike.

The Space

Melt has a working encaustic studio, one large open concept gallery space, 3 smaller small project rooms, and one showroom, all located at Base31 in Picton.

PAUSE- Art + Nature Experience Workshops

Twice monthly Nature + Art experiences are offered called PAUSE.

Pause is a unique experience that encourages you to pause in nature. Learn to engage all your senses and embrace the beauty of nature. Culminating in bringing that beauty into a piece of art that you created under the guidance by Susan Wallis, an experienced encaustic artist.

The basis of this experience connects you to the healing powers of nature. Inspired by the Japanese tradition of shin-rin yoku or more commonly referred to as forest bathing, you’ll be led on a meditative nature walk by a local herbalist. The intention is to help increase your sense of well-being, (physically and mentally), and access the relaxing power of nature. After your nature walk, you will then return to Melt studio, where you will compose a collage encaustic painting. Guided by an experienced encaustic artist.
